He formed the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings
and was conscious of environmental issues way ahead of his
time. He was also instrumental in re-establishing the value
of handcrafted work and inspired an entire generation of
designers and architects in the field of the applied arts.

celebrating his talent in my own special way. I have been
designing quilts with Morris as my inspiration since that visit
to London in 1997.”
Over the years Michele has had numerous colleagues
encourage her to think about sharing her knowledge and
drawings in a book. One such suggestion came from the
curator of the William Morris collection at the V & A Museum
in London many years ago.
Michele has been reluctant to publish due to the misgivings
that it would be “all too hard”; she did not want to be perceived
