coloured strips are used only twice.
Press the seams towards the strip and
then cut the units apart.
Cut the units apart, as before, and
then add the same coloured strip to the
remaining two sides of each block. A
total of 20 blocks is required.
this process for the remaining blocks,
remembering to vary the direction and
angle of each block so that a pleasing
assortment is achieved.

Lay one block right side up on your
cutting mat, place your 8in square ruler
on top of the block and swivel the ruler
until you have an angle that is pleasing
to the eye, as shown in diagram 5.

Make sure the 61/2in lines on all four
sides of the ruler are within the fabric,
and then cut the right-hand side and
the upper edges of the block. Rotate
the block anti-clockwise so that the
upper right-hand corner is now in the
lower left-hand position. Align the 61/2in
lines of the ruler with the left-hand side
and lower edges of the block, and
then cut the two remaining sides of the
block to size, see diagram 6. Repeat

Quilt assembly
Referring to the photo of the quilt, lay out
the blocks in five rows of four. Ensure the
colours are evenly distributed throughout
the quilt and that the black strips are in a
different position for adjacent blocks.
Sew the blocks into rows and press
the seams in opposite directions for the
alternate rows. Join the rows, carefully
matching the seam intersections. Press
the seams to one side.
Inner border
Trim two of the 11/2in black strips to
301/2in and two to 261/2in. Pin-mark
the 301/2in strips and the opposite sides
of the quilt top into quarters and then
stitch the borders in place matching the
pins. Press the seams outwards.
Join the remaining border strips to the
top and bottom of the quilt top in the
same way. Press the seams outwards.
Keyboard border
Cut each of the 12, 11/2in assorted
coloured strips into half lengths (total 24
half strips). Arrange the strips into four
sets of six strips each and then stitch
them together down the length, as
shown in diagram 7. Press the seams
to one side and then crosscut each
strip-set into five 31/2in segments.
Lay out the segments to create two
borders of 32 units and two borders of
26 units. Sew the segments together
to create the required number of strips,
